Relevant real estate development/zoning client experience
Top Golf
Provided advice and counsel developing strategies to build coalitions and the support of neighbors, local businesses and community leaders to impact the controversial rezoning of commercial property for use as a TopGolf entertainment center.
Louisville VA Hospital
Designed and implemented extensive public affairs campaign to successfully effect the selection of proposed real estate for the site selection of a new $1 billion VA hospital. Efforts included extensive grassroots/grasstops field operations, liaison activities with media, local opinion leaders, public and elected officials as well as the United States Veterans Administration.
Marriott Louisville Downtown
Worked with hospitality development company in obtaining incentives from state and local governments for their development – including the first Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district in the Commonwealth, as well as related grand opening and public relations activities.
LDG Development
Provided public affairs counsel building strategic relationships with local and state elected officials. Worked directly with in-house legal and public relations departments to supply staff and public relations media support for several of the developer’s zoning hearing and development processes.
Paristown Preservation Trust
Representing developer competing for the opportunity to redevelop a 10-acre parcel of surplus municipal property. Efforts include all media relations activities, while building alliances with organizations and individuals who support the client’s development proposal. Also includes all liaison activities with relevant government officials for purposes of securing public finance incentives.
Marian Development Group
Represented developer seeking controversial change in zoning involving the new construction of 180 affordable housing apartments under the Tax-Exempt Bond program. The project as proposed and requisite zoning change was opposed by Metro Council representation and faced imminent defeat. Efforts included all media relations activities, while building alliances with organizations and individuals who support the client’s development proposal. Also includes all liaison activities with relevant government officials.
Louisville City FC and Racing FC Stadium
Spent 18 months securing options on seven parcels of ground ultimately comprising a site proposed state-of-the-art professional soccer stadium and related development. Initiated full-scale public affairs campaign to win the approved development agreement and its funding for the City to purchase and grant the land for ~ $30 million. Worked with the Commonwealth of Kentucky to complete a public-private partnership by the Cabinet for Economic Development approving a Tax Increment Financing district for the project that will provide up to $26 million of additional funding.
Poe Companies
Worked with large Louisville-based multifamily housing and hospitality development company on multiple new projects, start-to-finish in Louisville market. Projects include the Aloft Hotel in 2016, River Park Place Apartments in 2017, Homewood Suites in 2018, the Moxy Hotel and the Hotel Distil in 2019. Work involved a wide range of activities including obtaining incentives from state and local governments for their development, as well as related grand opening and public relations activities.
Savion, LLC
Assisting the renewable energy company to develop utility-scale solar projects in Kentucky, including the creation of a solar energy designation for acceptable land use zoning criteria and obtaining the necessary conditional use permits for development.
M.A. Mortenson Construction Co.
Consulted with firm in contractor selection process to build the KFC Yum! Center arena in downtown Louisville, KY. Further provided strategic and crisis communications counsel to large, national construction company faced with employee allegations of unsafe work conditions at the construction site.
Glenmary Homeowners Association
Provided strategic communications counsel to neighborhood homeowners association wishing to repurpose their golf course and country club facilities.
JHFE/Standard Country Club
Provided public relations and strategic counsel for a religious-based foundation in their acquisition of a historic piece of property amid concerns of its possible redevelopment by surrounding neighborhoods.
